SIA Top-Up Refresher Training for Door Supervisor
The SIA Refresher Training for Door Supervisors is a mandatory requirement for renewing your SIA Door Supervisor or Security Guard licence. From April 2025, all licence holders must complete this refresher training before renewal.
Until 31 March 2025, those with a pre-April 2021 qualification must complete either Top-Up Training or Refresher Training. This course ensures security professionals stay updated with industry regulations, safety procedures, and best practices to maintain public safety and compliance.
Do I Need First Aid To Renew My SIA Licence?
To renew your SIA licence, you must complete first aid plus top-up training. The SIA requires all Security Guards and Door Supervisors to complete emergency first aid training before applying for their licence.
Furthermore, you must complete a compulsory 2-day additional ‘Top-Up’ Refresher training to renew your SIA license. SIA is changing how Security Guard and Door Supervisor Licenses are renewed from the 1st of October.
You must have an Emergency First Aid at Work qualification before they can take the refresher training. Book your SIA Door Supervisor Refresher Training to meet the April 2025 deadline.

SIA Refresher training is available to all Door Supervision OR Security Guard Licence holders looking to renew their licence. This update aligns with the Security Industry Authority’s (SIA) commitment to ensuring security professionals maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge. Notice: From April 2025, all Door Supervisors looking to renew their licence must have completed the refresher qualification.
What is the requirement to renew my SIA licence badge?
You must complete Top Up Refresher Training plus a First Aid Certificate to renew your SIA license.
Do I need security guard upskilling course for a Security Guard licence as well?
Yes, you will need a 1 Day SIA top-up training if you currently hold an SIA Security Guard licence, which means you will need to attend an SIA top-up training. From 1 October 2021, you must have one of the following before you can apply for, or renew your licence:
- One of the new SIA Qualifications was set in place in April 2021.
- Or, one of the older licence-linked qualifications, a valid First-Aid certificate, and a Top-Up qualification.
What will the SIA top-up Refresher training course include?
Security Guard licence holders will be required to undertake an additional one day of top-up training. Top Up training will include Terror Threat Awareness and Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers. Part of the SIA changes also requires licence holders to have an Emergency First Aid Certificate. Before renewing your licence, you must either prove you have a minimum of 12 months before expiry on any current first aid certificate or you must attend an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification or equivalent, before attending any top-up training.

Who is this SIA Top Up Refresher Course for?
- SIA Top Up Training Course Online is for individuals who currently have an SIA Door Supervisor Licence or a Security guard license and they wish to renew their SIA License.
How can I book and pay for the course?
You book and pay using your credit card or debit card securely online or over the phone. You can also pay via bank transfer. Please contact us if you would like to make the payment via bank transfer.

When will I receive my examination result?
Results are published online within 10-14 working days after your examination date. You will be notified by SMS and email when they are ready to view – in the rare case your results are delayed, we will always keep you informed.
When will I receive my certificate?
Certificates are usually dispatched 7 days after successful course completion. Please contact us – if it has been over 14 days so we can verify your address and arrange for a replacement.
Please note, you don’t need a certificate to apply for your SIA Licence.
I want to renew my License as a Security Guard, is this course right for me?
Yes, you would need an SIA Top Up Training to renew your Door Supervisor Licence to allows you to work as a Security Guard and a Door Supervisor.
That means – you can work in retail security, nightclubs and events with a Door Supervisor Licence.
What ID documents do I have to bring along?
It is a regulatory requirement to do an identity check for all security-related qualifications. Therefore, candidates who are attending Licence linked course are requested to provide the following upon arrival;
- Two passport size photos
- Original passport of any nationality or UK photo Drivers Licence
- Two forms of address proof (originals)

What if my course is cancelled?
We hate it when training providers have to cancel a course – but it can happen for reasons outside our control. If your course is cancelled – we will offer you an alternate date, if that date is not suitable, we will offer you an instant refund.
Does the course fee include the SIA Licence application fee?
The course fee does not include the licence fee. The licence application fee of £220 is payable to directly to the SIA when applying for the licence – which is valid for three years.
