Course Overview

Hotel security is not static guarding in a nicer building.

Everywhere else, you can go where the job takes you. In a hotel most of the building belongs to somebody else for the night, and you need a reason before you cross that threshold. At the same time the lobby is open to anyone — that is the business model — so you cannot control access the way an office does.

Hotel security training is about working inside those constraints. Patrolling an occupied building without disturbing it, being visible enough to deter and discreet enough not to intrude, and handling guests who are frustrated, intoxicated or in difficulty without turning an incident into a review.

The Room Question

The hardest calls in hotel security are about entry.

You may hold a master key. Holding one is not the same as having grounds to use it, and an entry you cannot justify afterwards becomes a serious matter for you and for the hotel.

Then there is the version of this every hotel officer eventually meets: a guest who has not been seen in two days, a Do Not Disturb sign on the handle, and a duty manager asking you what you think. Welfare against privacy, usually at an inconvenient hour, with no obviously right answer.

The course covers where the line sits, what justifies entry, who authorises it, and how to record the decision so it stands up later.
