Important Course Details
Who Needs the SIA Licence Renewal Course?
Refresher training is available to all Door Supervision Licence holders looking to renew their licence. From April 2025, all Door Supervisors looking to renew their licence must have completed the refresher qualification.
Until 31 March 2025, Door Supervisors who have an old, pre-April 2021 qualification will need to have completed either the top-up training or refresher training before they apply to renew their licence.
Before taking the refresher training, you must have an up-to-date Emergency First Aid at Work qualification or equivalent. Please book emergency first aid and door supervisor refresher training as both must be completed to renew your sia licence.

Unit 1: Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry (Refresher)
- Know how to conduct effective search procedures
- Understand how to keep vulnerable people safe.
- Understand terror threats and the role of the security operative in the event of a threat.
- Know how to safeguard the public from incidents of spiking.
Assessment:
- Multiple choice test (35 questions; 55 minutes)
- Practical assessment of learners undertaking a search
Unit 2: Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry (Refresher)
- Know the implications of physical interventions and their use
- Know the risks associated with using physical intervention
- Know how to reduce the risks associated with physical intervention
- Be able to proficiently and safely use physical skills to protect yourself and others
- Be able to use non-pain compliant standing, holding and escorting techniques safely
Assessment:
- Multiple choice test (30 questions; 45 minutes)
- Practical assessment of skills for LOs 4 and 5
- Oral Q&A
If You hold a door supervisor licence, you can choose one of the following options:
- Take the door supervisor refresher training and renew your door supervisor licence
- Take the security guard refresher training and switch to a security guard licence
