What is UpSkilling Course? 

SIA Refresher training is available to all Door Supervision OR Security Guard  Licence holders looking to renew their licence.

This update aligns with the Security Industry Authority’s (SIA) commitment to ensuring security professionals maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge.

Notice: From April 2025, all Door Supervisors looking to renew their licence must have completed the refresher qualification.

FREE = Mock Exam

Initial Deposit: £80 (Outstanding Payment in the Office £120).
Duration: 2 Days (9:00 AM – 6:30 PM).
Includes: Emergency First Aid.
Location: Canary Wharf London E14 9TS.

Course Details

SIA Refresher Training for Door Supervisors

Mandatory from 1 April 2025:
All SIA Door Supervisor and Security Guard licence holders must complete a refresher qualification before renewing their licence.

Who Needs This Training?

  • From 1 April 2025 – Refresher training is compulsory for all Door Supervisors renewing their licence.

  • Until 31 March 2025 – Those who qualified before April 2021 must complete either Top-Up or Refresher training before renewal.

Emergency First Aid Requirement

Candidates must hold a valid Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certificate or equivalent before taking the refresher course. If you don’t have one, book both the EFAW and refresher training together.

Course Overview

Unit 1: Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor (Refresher)

  • Effective search procedures

  • Safeguarding vulnerable people

  • Terror threat awareness

  • Preventing spiking incidents

Assessment:

  • 35-question multiple choice (55 mins)

  • Practical search assessment

Unit 2: Physical Intervention Skills (Refresher)

  • Understanding risks and legal implications

  • Risk reduction strategies

  • Non-pain compliant holding and escorting techniques

Assessment:

  • 30-question multiple choice (45 mins)

  • Practical assessment (LO 4 & 5)

  • Oral Q&A

Your Options

If you hold a Door Supervisor licence, you may:

  • Complete the Door Supervisor Refresher and renew your current licence, or

  • Complete the Security Guard Refresher and switch to a Security Guard licence
