How to Obtain Your CPCS Red Trained Operator Card

The CPCS Red Trained Operator Card is awarded upon successful completion of both the CPCS Theory and Practical Technical Tests, which must be taken at a CPCS-accredited test centre.

Upon successfully completing both the theory and practical tests, candidates will receive a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card, valid for 2 years.

CPCS Red Trained Operator course

✅ Step 1: Pass the Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) Test

You must first pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test, which is a mandatory requirement for all CPCS categories.

✅ Step 2: Complete the CPCS Theory Test

You must pass the CPCS Theory Test within 2 years of passing your HS&E test. This test assesses your understanding of safety, regulations, and best practices related to your plant category.

Once you’ve passed the theory test, you must complete your CPCS Practical Test within 6 months of the theory test date—and still within 2 years of your HS&E test.
