Every workplace has a legal duty to have trained first aiders on hand. In the first few minutes after a cardiac arrest, a choking incident or a serious bleed, the person nearest usually decides how it ends.

Our Emergency First Aid at Work Level 2 course gives you the skills and confidence to be that person, in a single day at our Battersea centre.

What Is Emergency First Aid at Work?

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) is a nationally recognised qualification designed for designated workplace first aiders. It focuses on the practical, life-saving skills that matter most before professional help arrives.

Unlike the three-day First Aid at Work course, EFAW is completed in a single day. That makes it practical for busy professionals and for employers who need several staff trained without losing a week of cover.

School and nursery staff, teachers and support staff keeping children safe.

What the Course Covers

1. Your role as a first aider, assessing the scene, keeping yourself safe, and knowing when to call for emergency help.

2. CPR and AED, hands-on adult CPR practice, the compression-to-breath ratio, and using a defibrillator correctly.

3. Choking, recognising and responding to choking in conscious and unconscious casualties.

4. The recovery position, managing an unconscious casualty who is still breathing, so their airway stays clear.

5. Bleeding and shock, controlling serious bleeding, applying dressings, and recognising and treating shock.

6. Burns, seizures and minor injuries, initial treatment for burns, managing a seizure safely, and dealing with cuts and grazes.

Training Options

Applying for an SIA Licence?

Assessment and Your Certificate

Assessment runs throughout the day. Your trainer observes your practical skills as you perform them, and there is a short set of questions at the end, no separate exam day.

Your certificate is valid for three years. The HSE also recommends annual refresher training, because practical skills like CPR fade quickly without practice. Book your requalification before your certificate expires to avoid any gap in cover.
