SIA Door Supervisor Course in Aldgate

The SIA Door Supervisor Course in Aldgate runs over six days at 6 Osborn Street, E1 6TD, and covers everything the SIA requires before you can apply for your licence. Emergency First Aid at Work is taught inside the same six days, so you leave with both certificates and nothing left to arrange.

Total fee: £350, with £100 to book online and £250 payable at the office. Attendance across all six days is mandatory, missing part of the week can invalidate your certificate.

You’ll Be Training Inside the Work

Osborn Street sits at the southern end of Brick Lane, where it meets Whitechapel High Street. Few postcodes in London put you closer to door supervisor work.

Brick Lane, Shoreditch and Spitalfields form one of the densest clusters of licensed premises in the capital. Bars, late-night venues, converted warehouse event spaces and restaurants run seven nights a week, and every one of them needs door staff.

Walk five minutes west and you’re on the City of London boundary, where corporate reception and building security run year-round rather than seasonally. Spitalfields Market and the surrounding retail add daytime shifts on top.

Most door work gets filled locally, through agencies and venue managers rather than national job boards. So qualifying here puts you within walking distance of a great many of the people doing the hiring.

Getting to the Centre

Aldgate East is seconds from the door for District and Hammersmith & City services. Aldgate covers the Circle and Metropolitan lines a few minutes on, while Liverpool Street and Whitechapel both bring the Elizabeth line within a short walk. Shoreditch High Street adds the Overground.

That’s six lines plus national rail inside a ten-minute walk. Learners travel in easily from Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Newham, Bethnal Green, Bow, Stepney, the City, Essex and south of the river.

What the Licence Lets You Do

The Door Supervisor badge is the most flexible front-line licence in the security industry, and it covers most security guarding roles too, which a Security Guard licence does not do in reverse.

Pubs, bars and nightclubs. Hotels, restaurants and members’ clubs. Concerts, festivals, stadiums and event security. Retail stores and shopping centres. Construction gates and corporate reception.

Only need retail, office or site work? The SIA Security Guard Course takes four days instead of six. Most learners still choose Door Supervisor, because it opens both.

Course Content

All four mandatory units, taught face to face:

1: Working in the Private Security Industry Licensing law, the legislation governing the industry, health and safety, fire and emergency procedures, incident reporting and record keeping.

2: Working as a Door Supervisor Searching people and property, the law around consent, refusals and ejections, reasonable force, drug awareness, age verification and safeguarding.

3: Conflict Management Recognising triggers early, communication and body language under pressure, de-escalating aggression before it turns physical, and post-incident reporting.

4: Physical Intervention Skills The legal framework for going hands on, the medical risks of restraint, disengagement, low-level restraint and escorting, and team-based intervention.

Emergency First Aid at Work is included. Primary survey, CPR and defibrillator use, the recovery position, choking, serious bleeding, shock and burns. You leave with both certificates.

Assessment

You sit four multiple-choice examinations and complete one practical assessment during the six days. Mock papers and a revision session run beforehand, so nothing on the final day is unfamiliar.

Practise first with our free SIA Door Supervisor Mock Exams. Results reach you within 14 to 15 working days by email or SMS.

Who Can Book

You must be 18 or over with the right to work in the UK. Bring photo identification, two proofs of address from the last three months, and two passport-size photographs.

No previous security experience is required, most learners arrive with none at all. The SIA runs its own criminal record checks once you apply, and anyone who has spent six continuous months or more outside the UK in the last five years will need overseas checks too.

How Long Until You Can Work?

Around three months from booking to badge, and it’s worth knowing where that time goes.

Six days of training, then 14 to 15 working days for your results. After that, the SIA takes up to eight weeks to process your licence application, and nothing you do speeds that up.

So if you need to be earning by a particular date, count backwards three months and book now. Delaying the course by a fortnight delays your first paid shift by a fortnight.
