SIA CCTV Course Manchester
If you want an SIA licence and you want it quickly, the SIA CCTV Course Manchester is the shortest route there is. It runs over three days rather than six, it costs £250 rather than £350, and it qualifies you for work that most Door Supervisors in this city cannot take. Consequently it is the fastest and cheapest way into the private security industry from a standing start.
What You Get From the SIA CCTV Course Manchester
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Qualification | Level 2 Award for CCTV Operators (Public Space Surveillance) |
| Duration | 2 days, Wednesday & Thursday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM |
| Guided learning | 18 hours, the SIA minimum |
| Total fee | £250 — £50 deposit, £200 at the centre |
| Venue | 817A Stockport Road, Manchester M19 3BS |
The SIA requires a minimum of 18 class hours for this qualification, and the SIA CCTV Course Manchester delivers all of them across three full days. That matters more than people expect, because a certificate issued without the full hours can be invalidated later, and you usually find out only when the SIA rejects your licence application eight weeks down the line.
You secure a place with £50 and pay the remaining £200 at the centre on your first morning. There is no finance agreement and no credit check.
Why the SIA CCTV Course Manchester Opens Doors the Door Supervisor Badge Does Not
Manchester has no shortage of licensed Door Supervisors. The night-time economy around Deansgate, the Printworks and the Northern Quarter absorbs a great many of them, and because supply is high, the rates stay roughly where they are. CCTV is a different market altogether.
Control rooms need licensed operators rather than door staff, and Greater Manchester has a lot of control rooms. Manchester Airport runs around the clock. Transport for Greater Manchester monitors the Metrolink network. The city council operates one of the larger public space surveillance systems outside London, while the Trafford Centre, the Arndale, the Etihad, Old Trafford, the AO Arena and Co-op Live each run operations of their own on top of that.
The work itself is also different in character. Shifts are indoors and generally longer, the hours are more predictable, and the pay sits above standard door rates. For a lot of people the SIA CCTV Course Manchester is therefore not a first step at all, but a way out of late finishes without leaving the industry.
What the SIA CCTV Course Manchester Covers
Unit 1: Working within the Private Security Industry. You begin with the shape of the industry itself, then move through the legislation that governs it, safe working practice, fire procedures, emergency response, and the communication and customer care skills the role demands day to day.
Unit 2: Working as a CCTV Operator. This is the legal core of the qualification. You cover the operator’s role and responsibilities, the codes of practice that decide what may be recorded and how long it may be kept, data protection, control room emergency procedures, and the characteristics of CCTV systems themselves.
Unit 3: Practical Operation of CCTV Equipment. Finally you work on the equipment: camera control, target tracking, and producing evidence that holds up if somebody asks for it in court. Trainers run practice exercises throughout, so the practical assessment on the last afternoon is not the first time you touch a live system.
Assessment is a multiple-choice examination plus a practical assessment at the monitors. Although the pass mark is straightforward, you must attend all three days, because the SIA hours requirement is absolute and attendance is recorded.
Where the SIA CCTV Course Manchester Runs
Our centre is at 817A Stockport Road, Manchester M19 3BS, in Levenshulme. Stockport Road is the A6, so the 192 runs directly past the door — one of the busiest bus corridors in the country, connecting Manchester Piccadilly to Stockport every few minutes throughout the day. Levenshulme railway station is a short walk away on the Piccadilly to Stockport line.
Because the A6 runs north into the city centre and south towards Stockport, the SIA CCTV Course Manchester is straightforward to reach from Longsight, Burnage, Withington, Fallowfield, Didsbury, Gorton, Reddish and Hazel Grove without going into town first. On a three-day course that is worth something, since you are making the trip three mornings running.
Before You Book the SIA CCTV Course Manchester
You must be 18 or over with the right to work in the UK. Bring SIA-accepted photographic identification and two proofs of address issued within the last three months, such as a bank statement or a utility bill. In addition, the SIA runs its own criminal record checks once you submit the application, so there is nothing for you to arrange beforehand.
Results normally arrive within 14 to 15 working days. After that the SIA can take up to 8 weeks to process a licence application, so apply as soon as your certificate lands rather than waiting until you have found a role.
You will also need both free ACT counter-terrorism e-learning modules before applying, and you can complete them online in a single evening at ACT Security and ACT Awareness. Licence applications themselves go through GOV.UK.
To book the SIA CCTV Course Manchester, choose a start date above and pay the £50 deposit. Places are capped so trainers can run the practical assessments properly, and the earliest dates fill first.
